Hear Today, Gone Tomorrow

Recently the city of New York has launched a hearing protection awareness campaign citing the importance of protecting your hearing in noisy environments. In many everyday settings, especially New York City, the noise level of everyday life can be harmful to one's hearing over time. Add to that the increased usage of mp3 devices with ear buds sitting close to the eardrum, it's no wonder there is a valid cause for concern for accelerated hearing loss.
As is illustrated in a recent article introducing the campaign, read here
, the effects of extended exposure to harmful noise level volumes is irreversible and can lead to significant hearing loss. This article on the campaign offers some great tips for listening to music for everyone to heed, not just New York City citizens. These suggestions include:
- Reduce the volume, limit listening time and take regular breaks.
- Never listen at maximum volume and do not turn the volume up to drown out external noise
- Use volume listening features on personal listening devices
We encourage all to exercise these practices to avoid potential hearing loss implications.
